Motatapu Adventure Run

The Motatapu Adventure Run follows the DOC Motatapu Track, which forms part of the Te Araroa walking trail from Cape Reinga to Bluff. ‘Te Araroa (The Long Pathway) connects settlements, townships and cities throughout New Zealand, showcasing a wide variety of NZ experiences – natural, cultural and historic’. The DOC Motatapu Track follows an old travellers’ route between Wanaka and Arrowtown, an area steeped in New Zealand history.

Described in places as merely a “marked route” the track covers 49km of exposed and physically challenging backcountry terrain crossing the Motatapu and Soho Stations. Motatapu Adventure Run competitors will ascend a total of 2790 metres, traversing four peaks, (the highest point being Jack Halls Saddle at 1275metres above sea level), negotiating rough tussock-covered areas, long steep sidles and river crossings.
